"A Helping Hand"
Tinicum's Student Council Middle School students visited a few elementary classes to help with different Martin Luther King, Jr. activities. Sixth graders visited Mrs. Criscuolo's Learning Support class and made a 'hands collage', listing different ways they could make a difference in the community. Seventh graders visited Mrs. Dalton's Second Grade class to help write letters to Prospect Park Nursing Home patients. Eighth graders worked with Mrs. Said's Third Grade class to make 'I have a Dream' mobiles. Everyone had a great time and it gave our students a chance to make Tinicum School a better place to be!

CIRCUS CLOWNS VISIT TINICUM
The circus clowns Mike and Rob came to show the Tinicum second grade that science can be fun. The start of the show was about physics. Every day the circus uses physics to perform. The kids learned all about momentum, force, gravity, motion and balance using circus activities performed by the clowns. May all your days be circus days. The Ringling Brothers and Barnum Brothers Circus really is "The Greatest Show on Earth!"
Helping Hands
On Monday, December 12, Tinicum's Student Council members went to City Team in Chester, PA for the second year in a row to help the organization get ready for the busy holiday season. Mr. Bowen went with half of the group to box up dinners for families, and Mrs. Stewart went with the other half of the group to pick out presents for children in City Team's 'Holiday Shop'. It was a great opportunity for our students to assist City Team in their mission of serving low-income families in need, and our students appreciated the fact that they were helping to make a difference.
The Season of Giving
Mrs. Dalton's second grade class helped make the holidays a little brighter for two children that Tinicum adopted through CYS. They brought in a generous amount of gifts for the two girls to help them have a Merry Christmas, and they even said they hoped Santa would visit the girls and bring them even MORE presents. Happy Holidays!
ENERGIZING EDUCATION
Tinicum School's own Keith Saroka was asked to help promote Project NEED/PECO's Energizing Education Program at the Franklin Institute's Teacher Night on October 5th.
Tinicum School was selected to participate in the program last school year, and we received hands-on energy kits, a free field trip to PECO's Fairless Hills facility, conservation kits that went home to each of the 6th grade students, as well as grant money that paid for our Compact Fluorescent Light Bulb giveaway last spring. All of those were huge successes which were highlighted at an awards ceremony at WHYY studios in Philadelphia back in May, where Tinicum School was honored as one of the top 5 schools in the program.
Mr. Saroka reports that Tinicum School is one of about 12 schools selected to be part of the program this coming year as well. He is very excited to be bringing the program back to Tinicum for another year, and here we see him being enthusiastic at spreading the news about the program to literally hundreds of teachers from around the Delaware Valley in front of the Ben Franklin statue at the Franklin Institute.
Stay tuned for more details regarding this year's energy efficient giveaway, likely to happen in the spring.
